Strategic Business Analyst - BESS
The Position
Sympower is looking for a talented BESS (battery energy storage systems) Business Analyst to join Sympower’s Market Strategy team. This is a full-time position. Our headquarters are in Amsterdam, but there is the option of working remotely with flexibility regarding location.

Role and responsibilities
BESS (battery energy storage systems) has been recognized as a strategic segment for growth for Sympower in the coming years. Given the projected influx of BESS projects across Europe and the substantial impact they are expected to have on flexibility and energy markets, Sympower is working to refine our value proposition and offering towards BESS customers and to grow the share of BESS on our portfolios.
The BESS Business Analyst will be working alongside and supporting the Strategy & Innovation Program Manager responsible for BESS within the Market Strategy team.
The BESS Business Analyst will be responsible for:
- BESS Business models - creating business models for BESS in our geographies of interest, calculating business cases to support advancing BESS leads in our pipeline
- BESS optimisation strategy - defining the logic for optimising BESS across different revenue streams, taking into account price forecasts of flexibility and energy markets, market requirements, degradation of BESS, SoC management
- BESS operation on markets - supporting the Operations team in the operations of BESS projects in markets, monitoring and improving their performance
- Combined portfolio optimisation strategy - defining the strategy for optimally operating BESS along with different resources on Sympower’s portfolios
As part of the team focusing on BESS within the Market Strategy team, the BESS Business Analyst will also be involved in strategic assessment & product roadmap activities, including:
- Refining Sympower’s value proposition towards BESS customers
- Exploring partnership and merger & acquisition strategies for Sympower with BESS companies/service providers
- Supporting product development efforts to execute BESS projects on our roadmap
- Supporting the commercial team in managing the BESS pipeline and scaling our offering towards BESS customers
Requirements
- Experience with creating business models for BESS
- Experience in BESS trading and optimization
- Strong analytical & communication skills with the ability to work independently
- Advantage: strategically oriented mindset
- Advantage: knowledge of European energy and flexibility markets
